HM Arts

Hollen Mackendrick Arts, otherwise known as HM Arts was a tremendously creative collaboration between Mathew Mackendrick and myself. We formed the partnership in 1991 as a way to pool our creative energies. The projects below represent some our best work.

We did a full interior design design here including custom steel fixtures, lighting, facade, walls and details throughout.

This was one of the most spectacular facades on Beverly Blvd. We created a hand carved dimensional sign, custom spatter paint work, and a slick entrance for this fashionable clothing store.
spike_center.jpg (12633 bytes) The Spike Bar
We created a one of a kind look for this West Hollywood landmark. In collaboration with noted local artist Marco Ortiz, we put fiberglass drapes and a dimensional silver sign all over a custom metallic spray paint job.
metro_sign.jpg (14644 bytes) The Metro Rail
We created a construction fence for the Metro Red Line Station at Wilshire and Western. The fence included frames for local artists to display artwork on a rotating basis.

We created some exceptional lighting fixtures and a giant copper coffee cup to identify this West Hollywood coffee shop.
fastframe_detail.jpg (9851 bytes) Fast Frame
A sixteen foot hand carved angel holding a picture frame make a striking visual impact on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood. A custom paint effect finishes this facade off.
tryst_nudes.jpg (7697 bytes) Tryst Restaurant
In collaboration with noted interior designer Ron Meyers, we created 72 custom painted "masterpiece" fragments inserted in frames throughout this extraordinary restaurant.
gauntlet_signclose.jpg (16305 bytes) The Gauntlet
We jumped through many flaming hoops of West Hollywood bureaucracy to get this mural and custom dimensional sign installed on this body adornment parlor. It was well worth the headaches.
jjdaq_corner.jpg (7260 bytes) JJ Daq Bar
We took on a technical challenge to create a rich colored concrete stain on the floor of this West Hollywood bar. We also created several custom paint finishes for the walls and fixtures.

Mathew, I miss you so much...
I promise to carry on the work as you would have liked.
Adieu my friend.
