Mickey's
Bar Mickey's is a famous West Hollywood bar known
for it's hip, hot crowd of men. The owner at that time, Michael, approached us
about redoing an interior, we jumped at the chance. What ever we did, it had to
be durable. So we worked out a look using raw steel pipe and mesh and blue tones
against warm birch elements.
|

The
bar top was resurfaced with two toned plastic laminate. The rails and
supporting structure was clear-coated steel with brass elbows for
contrast. |
| If I was to do another bar top for a
place as busy as Mickey's, I would definitely use a Corian bar surface for it's
extreme durability and it's resistance to Margarita Mix. |

This side rail is
attached to a plywood box underneath. I've seen ten guys dancing on top of
it and it didn't move an inch! This is by far my favorite piece in this
bar. |

Here you can see a
detail of the steel supports and the perforated sheet steel. The sheet was
lit from behind and looked great at night. |
|

The walls were
divided into these checkerboards made of differently stained birch
plywood. The striped pieces were wooden drink rails painted with a
metallic blue-grey paint. Also, we painted the ceiling the darkest,
richest blue to give it a twilight look. |
| The Exterior |

We painted the
exterior a purple to blue to green fade using a spray gun. Over that, we
installed the cut foam figure and sun to give it some interest. We used
Mathew's lover for the model. (Hi Bill!) |
