A Brief Discussion
of Husk's Meaning
Husk was a difficult
piece to bring about. Not just technically, but emotionally as well. The heavy,
interlocking reinforcement bars weave into a locking structure that carries a
density reminiscent of a fortress. In many ways, that's exactly what it is. The
structure is a fortress of cold, rational logic.
|
But the structure has
been ruptured from within. The "heart" is gone from it. Every bar
terminates to a point inside and curls outward indicating a violent
outward expulsion. All that's left is the outward shell, or husk, of a
once impervious structure.
For me, this piece is the external artifact of a personal growth
process that occurred during the production of this piece. Did the pain of
this process produce the piece, or did the piece induce the transformative
experience? I'm way to close to this piece to be able to say for sure... |
