Moria

March, 2010

29" x 28" x 18"

stainless steel cable, steel, aluminum, butyl rubber

Moria is my experiment with a knot. A 10-cell triangular prism twisted into a simple overhand knot. Of course it's never that simple. The 9 bands of color is my first attempt at "painting" with my new-found colored rubber. This piece is very much alive in some strange way, and it shows it with the use of gradations of colors used on the rings: cold on the outer edge, hot on the interior.

Another view of the piece.

The lateral cables ended in this ballooning effect as they passed through the base.

Here is the piece in a more primitive form.
