Muff Cone works from a simple 3-cell pentagonal prism that expands outward as it rises up from a single point. This is the first time I used a much stiffer wire cable (1x19 1/4" SS) to allow precise placement and attachment of the porcelain 'thorns' surrounding the core.

Here's a detail of the transition from cable to wire to porcelain. Each wire is bent and cut to a precise position to ensure an even distribution of 'thorns'.

One of the effects that I like most is the way the flat backs of each thorn describes an interior cone form that seemed like an invisible skin just beneath the porcelain.

Because of the length of the wires, the porcelain vibrates with the slightest touch or movement of air. It shivers when you gently poke it.

This shows the cutting templates used to ensure a good form.

A thousand porcelain thorn/claw/stub were made for Muff Cone. I used the whitest and purest porcelain available called "Southern Ice".
